An Elegant Celebration at Burghley House
Some weddings are remembered for their breathtaking setting, others for unforgettable flowers. Sinead and Martin's September wedding at Burghley House was both.
Their vision was simple but incredibly impactful: an elegant celebration where the flowers became the focal point of every space. Rather than relying on masses of greenery, they wanted abundant, luxurious blooms that complemented the grandeur of one of England's finest stately homes.
Set against the magnificent backdrop of Burghley House on a beautiful sunny day in late September, their wedding was a perfect blend of timeless romance, luxury and refined floral design.

Why Burghley House?
Burghley House, nestled on the outskirts of Stamford, is one of the country's most spectacular country estates and hosts only a limited number of weddings each year, making every celebration feel wonderfully exclusive. For Sinead and Martin, the venue wasn't chosen solely for its beauty. It also offered the flexibility needed to accommodate their families' complex medical requirements, allowing everyone to celebrate together comfortably. Finding a venue that combined practicality with extraordinary elegance made Burghley House the perfect choice.
Its grand state rooms, soaring ceilings and magnificent windows provided an unforgettable setting for the floral installations to truly shine.
A Floral Brief Focused on Flowers
From our very first conversations, one thing was clear—this wedding was always going to be about the flowers. The brief centred around luxurious white hydrangeas and roses, creating soft, romantic designs filled almost entirely with blooms. Rather than incorporating large amounts of foliage, every arrangement celebrated the beauty and texture of the flowers themselves.
For Sinead and Martin, we created:
A romantic bridal bouquet
Coordinating bridesmaids' bouquets
Elegant buttonholes
Luxurious floral table centres
Because of the scale of Burghley House's reception rooms, we designed tall statement centrepieces that balanced beautifully with the architecture, adding height without overwhelming the space.
The Showstopping Floral Installations
Every wedding has one design that stops guests in their tracks.
For this wedding, it was undoubtedly the spectacular 16-foot floral table runner, created entirely from hydrangeas and roses. Overflowing with fresh blooms and almost no greenery, it became an incredible focal point within the reception room, perfectly reflecting the couple's elegant vision.
The floral palette remained classic throughout—soft whites with subtle touches of green—allowing the architecture of Burghley House to remain the backdrop while the flowers added warmth, softness and romance. The period interiors deserved floral designs that felt sympathetic to the building's history while still making a luxurious contemporary statement, and that balance was exactly what we aimed to achieve.
A Day Filled with Light
One of the most memorable moments came after the final installation had been completed.
As the afternoon sunlight streamed through Burghley House's enormous windows, it illuminated every arrangement, catching the petals of hundreds upon hundreds of hydrangeas and roses.
Watching the room come alive in that golden September light made all the months of planning—and every stem conditioned and arranged—completely worthwhile. The couple were absolutely delighted with the finished designs, and receiving such a heartfelt review afterwards was the perfect ending to an unforgettable wedding.

Behind the Scenes
Creating flower-heavy weddings like this is always an exciting challenge. This installation required processing and arranging more than nine large boxes of fresh flowers before we could even begin creating the final designs. The sheer volume of blooms made this one of our most flower-filled weddings to date, but the finished result demonstrated exactly what can be achieved when flowers are allowed to take centre stage.
Reflections from Rutland Florals
Burghley House is one of those venues that never loses its magic. Its remarkable architecture, beautiful grounds and sense of occasion make every wedding feel extraordinary. Pairing that setting with abundant floral designs created a celebration that felt effortlessly romantic and wonderfully luxurious.
This wedding will be remembered not only for its spectacular floral installations, but also for the joy of seeing every room transformed into something truly unforgettable.
Inspiration for Future Couples
If you're planning a wedding at a grand country house, don't be afraid to let the flowers do the talking.
Large-scale venues often benefit from generous floral installations that create balance and warmth within the space.
Choosing fewer varieties of flowers in abundance can often have far greater impact than incorporating lots of different elements. Hydrangeas and roses remain a timeless combination, offering softness, elegance and incredible visual impact while perfectly complementing historic venues like Burghley House.
